New Publication by Prof. Selçuk Esenbel in Global Perspectives
The Asian Studies Center is delighted to share that our Honorary Chairperson, Academic Coordinator, and Board Member, Prof. Selçuk Esenbel, has published a new research article in Global Perspectives, a journal by the University of California Press.
This comprehensive article is titled Japan as a Pivot for Turkey? The Japanese Perspective on the Making of a New World Order, Transcontinental Maritime Alliances, the Ukraine Crisis, and the End of Multipolarity. In this work, Prof. Esenbel provides a historical and strategic analysis of Japan’s “free and open Indo-Pacific” strategy in the context of Turkey’s current debate over its NATO membership versus a new Eurasianist turn. The paper links the historical analogies of Japan's prewar foreign policy to the shifting global dynamics and transcontinental maritime alliances accelerated by the Ukraine crisis.
Prof. Selçuk Esenbel explores the century-long friendly relations between Turkey and Japan to evaluate whether Japan can serve as a proactive partner and strategic pivot for Turkey in the making of a new world order. We congratulate Prof. Esenbel on this exceptional scholarly achievement, which underscores the continued impact of our center's research in the global academic community.
